About the event

National Train-the-Trainers Suzanne Clark and Karyn Feeney are teaching this course.  A special welcome to those pursuing a Youth MHFA USA Instructor Certification!

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.  In this Youth Mental Health First Aid course, you will learn unique risk factors and warning signs for mental health challenges in adolescents ages 12-18 with an emphasis on the importance of early intervention.  Learn more here

Please note:  You must be 18 years or older to attend.

Course Format:  This course is delivered in a blended learning format, with the first 2 hours of learning done at your own pace on a computer.  You will be emailed information to access this content using MHFA Connect Learning Management System and complete it prior to us meeting on Zoom.  This 2 hours of pre-work is a pre-requisite for joining the  instructor led portion on Zoom.  The instructor led portion involves activities where you learn by getting involved with the material and relating what you learn to real-life application.  Discussion topics, exercises, and other activities keep you engaged in the course and give you an opportunity to practice these helping skills.

Access to the 2-hours pre-work will be emailed approximately 48 hours prior to training start time.  This allows pre-work to be completed within 48 hours of the Instructor-led portion, so the information will be fresh and very relevant to our time on Zoom

Environment:  Suzanne and Karyn lead the course following a national curriculum and teaching standards, while emphasizing hope for recovery.  Classes consist of 30 people or less and are offered in a respectful, comfortable environment via Zoom.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education course, and completion of the training earns  a 3-year certification, similar to CPR.  This certification satisfies the requirement of becoming a Youth Mental Health First Aider prior to attending a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor Certification training.

Cancellation policy:  If registration is cancelled more than 7 days prior to start of instructor-led portion of the course held on Zoom, participant may receive 100% refund or roll registration to a future training provided by Suzanne and Karyn.  If registration is cancelled within 7 days of instructor-led portion of course held on Zoom, participant may receive 50% refund or roll registration to a future training provided by Suzanne and Karyn.   For registrations cancelled within 24 hours of start of instructor led portion held on Zoom, no refund will be provided.
